Situation
In the past, the road was a gravel road that throughout the year was expanded and overlaid with asphalt, eventually becoming an asphalt road. It is assumed that the bearing capacity is not sufficient in the unbound layers which had resulted in a total breakdown of the asphalt.
Solution
The solution with asphalt reinforcment was offered by Arctic Asfalt to the Municipality - and they agreed.
In a first step, a levelling asphalt layer of approximately 80 kg/m² was laid. S&P Glasphalt G was subsequently laid on top along a 900 m section of the road, before being topped with 90 kg/m² wearing course.
In this particular case, the prime function of the asphalt reinforcement grid is to protect the wearing course and delay cracks propagating through to the surface.
