Reinforcement of existing structure - Parvis des Halles - La Roche sur Yon, France
From 2020 to 2022, S&P Reinforcement France was involved in the structural reinforcement of the Halles de la Roche sur Yon market square.
The municipality wished to redevelop the market place to revitalise the commercial activity of the Halles district and create an esplanade on this site.
Project Description
Situation
This project led to the demolition of old buildings and a change in the structure of the buildings retained in the project.
All these changes to the Halles market place affected its structure. Consequently, it was necessary to reinforce the structures in all of the areas that were affected, due to the change in loads as a result of the new uses.
Solution
In response to this problem, S&P Reinforcement France worked on the reinforcement of the structure using composite materials adapted to the future needs of the site: namely S&P C-Laminate and S&P C-Sheet.
Thanks to the solution, the original beams and floors could be retained, and reinforced with S&P C-Laminates bonded to the underside of the beams to counteract the bending moments, combined with S&P C-Sheet fabrics to deal with the shear forces. Slot applied S&P C-Laminates (Near Surface Mounted or NSM) embedded in the substrate, were used to negate the negative moments induced by the structural changes.
