Situation

During the construction project Deutsche Bank AG in Frankfurt am Main, new door openings were cut into the stiffening cores of the towers as part of reconstruction measures. When recalculating the cores, it turned out that there was too little reinforcement in the remaining areas.

Solution

In order to replace the missing reinforcement, CFK laminates bonded in slots were used, as they have a significantly better anchoring behaviour than glued CFRP laminates. In order to keep the number and length of the slots small, two laminates were bonded in one slot. The two CFRP laminates were bonded to each other with adhesive priot to installation, so that it could be assumed that the laminates would be twice as thick. However, the doubling of CFRP laminates is not approved by the building authorities. An individual approval was obtained on the basis of a report by Prof. Dr. Eng. Konrad Zilch. Accordingly, the CFRP laminates could be bonded in the intended manner.

Material

Sto S&P CFK Laminate (slot applied) - processing of approx. 1700 m CFK Laminate bonded in slots.
