Road Rehabilitation of the NA-6000
In June 2026, a rural road on the outskirts of Pamplona underwent strengthening works. The existing pavement was in a poor state of repair, with significant deterioration evident throughout the section. Following a series of localised deep patch repairs, a S&P Glasphalt® G reinforcement grid was installed before the placement of a new hot mix asphalt wearing course, extending the service life of the pavement and improving its long-term performance.

Project Description
Situation
The existing asphalt pavement showed significant signs of deterioration, including cracking, fissures, repaired potholes, surface disintegration and fatigue-related damage. The condition of the road was compromising traffic flow and driving comfort for lorries and other vehicles serving the surrounding rural area.
Solution
The adopted solution consisted of carrying out localised deep patch repairs in the areas where the pavement failure had severely affected the underlying subgrade. Following these repairs, S&P Glasphalt® G reinforcement grid was installed in continuous sections along the carriageway. A new hot mix asphalt (HMA) wearing course was then laid.
Rather than milling the existing pavement, an overlay rehabilitation approach was adopted, making use of the remaining structural capacity of the road. The pavement was strengthened from the top up, increasing its original level through the application of a 50 mm hot mix asphalt overlay, reinforced with S&P Glasphalt® G. This approach provided an efficient and durable solution while avoiding the cost and disruption associated with full-depth reconstruction.
