Project Description
Situation
Re-establishing pre-tensioned cables would be an expensive and time-consuming solution that would cause major traffic challenges on the busy motorway under the bridge.
Solution
The bridge's edge beam was restored to its original profile by a concrete repair and then the reinforcement was established with embedded carbon fibre rods (S&P C-Rod), which were placed in a milled groove filled with glue (Near Surface Mounted solution). The 7 pre-stressed cables could be replaced with just 4 carbon fibre rods ø8mm. At one end at the centre of the concrete beam, carbon fibre sheet (S&P C-Sheet) was secured as a U-shaped enclosure. The work was carried out overnight and in a very short time, causing only minor disruption to traffic.
Material
S&P C-Rod ø8mm, S&P Resin 220 HP, S&P C-Sheet, S&P Resin 55 HP
