Pau-Pyrénées Airport

S&P reinforcement grids are the ideal solution for strengthening bituminous structures and resisting various types of deterioration. They are particularly effective in addressing structural fatigue caused by traffic loading.

Situation

As part of works carried out at Pau-Pyrénées Airport, S&P Reinforcement was specified by a partner engineering consultancy to meet a requirement for strengthening the airfield pavement.

The project involved two distinct applications: firstly, reinforcement in the area of the trench cut made for the taxiway centreline lighting, between the concrete backfill and the GB4 asphalt base course; secondly, reinforcement over existing concrete slabs.

Solution

To address these two applications, two S&P reinforcement solutions were installed.

At the taxiway centreline lighting trench, 750 m² of S&P Glasphalt® G was applied between the concrete backfill and the GB4 base course. This solution strengthens the interface zone and helps prevent cracks from propagating into the upper asphalt layers.

Over the existing concrete slabs in the foundation layer, 630 m² of S&P Carbophalt® G 200/200 was installed to effectively absorb stresses and limit their transfer to the upper pavement layers.

The combination of these two solutions made it possible to tailor the reinforcement to the different site conditions encountered and to contribute to improving pavement durability in a heavily trafficked airport environment.

Material
