Situation

The bridge was originally designed for bridge classification 40 in normal conditions but has since been downgraded to bridge classification 20 due to corrosion of the reinforcement and new legal requirements. As the bridge is located on a well frequented stretch of road, with heavy vehicles from industry and agriculture, the municipality wanted an upgrade of the load-bearing capacity so that the bridge classification could be improved.

Solution

The solution was a newly developed specialised reinforcement system S&P C-DAS (Ductile Anchor System). The project was carried out as a pilot project in co-operation with AAU, the developer of the system. The advantage of this system is that it is pre-tensioned to achieve maximum utilisation of the carbon fibre material while providing a response control effect in the form of scalable ductility. The bridge's girders were each reinforced with a system on both sides. The bridge thus achieved a new bridge classification of 50 , meaning the goal of improving the classification of the bridge was acheived.

Material

10 sets of S&P C-DAS + ø8mm S&P C-Rod carbon fibre rods
