Farum municipality wanted to make their swimming pool more energy efficient by replacing the roof structure and installing solar panels on the roof.
Farum swimming pool was built in 1979 and later expanded in 2001. The original part was built with a corten steel roof and was poorly insulated. To improve energy consumption, it was decided to remove the existing roof and replace it with a new and contemporary insulated roof construction, as well as the installation of solar panels. The new roof structure results in a smaller additional load but at the same time, new legal requirements for load-bearing capacity verification of the load-bearing concrete decks had to be be taken into account.
The solution was to bond carbon fibre laminates (S&P C-Laminate) to the underside of the existing concrete supports. As the installation height is minimal (approx. 2-3mm), the solution is aesthetically pleasing after a paint treatment and hardly visible on the concrete girders. Watch the project video here.
