Back in 2011 S&P asphalt reinforcement grids were used on a particularly challenging project on the Ayrton Senna Highway in Brazil. Prior to the installation of the S&P asphalt reinforcement grids, the road suffered from excessive reflective cracking caused by a cement bound on an unstable subsoil that had cracked under the heavy daily traffic loads on the highway in Sao Paulo.

The initial goal of the project was to at least double the lifespan of the wearing course, which was being repaved at a high recurring cost every 6 months. But cost wasn't the only factor here, as the recurring maintenance intervals also led to an increase in traffic disruption and a regular waste of resources.
